Wi-Fi & Internet#

How to get on the Wi-Fi, get a visitor connected, and what to do when the internet acts up. There are two houses here — find yours below.

Bedford (Mom & Pop’s house)#

Getting on the Wi-Fi#

  • Network name: Wolfhead Music
  • Password: a normal Wi-Fi password. Your everyday devices already remember it, so you only need it when setting up something new. If you don’t have it written down, ask Ben — he keeps it in his password vault.
  • To connect: open Wi-Fi settings, tap Wolfhead Music, type the password once, and the device will remember it from then on.

Guest Wi-Fi (for visitors)#

  • Network name: Wolfhead Music Guest
  • No password. Have your guest pick it, wait for a little page to pop up, and tap Accept / I Agree. That’s it.
  • This keeps visitors off the main house network (it’s walled off for safety), so it’s the right choice for company — no need to hand out the real password.

Where the internet comes from#

  • The internet comes from Comcast. It enters the house through the Comcast box (the modem) and feeds the UniFi router — a small white box with a little screen on the front (the “Express 7”). That router is the heart of the network and also broadcasts the Wi-Fi.
  • The cable TV / DVR is a separate Comcast box and is not on the Wi-Fi. So if the TV misbehaves, that’s a cable issue — not the Wi-Fi — and a Wi-Fi problem won’t affect recordings, and vice-versa.
  • The other small white UniFi boxes around the house just extend things: the access points labeled U6 House and U6 Office spread the Wi-Fi farther, and the little USW Flex Mini boxes add wired connections. When the internet is down#

  1. Is it just one device, or everything? - Just one device — turn its Wi-Fi off and back on, or “forget” Wolfhead Music and rejoin it. Restart the device if needed. - Everything — it’s almost always Comcast. Go to step 2.
  2. Power-cycle the Comcast box: unplug it, count to 30, plug it back in, and wait a full 5 minutes for it to wake up. Lights going steady = good.
  3. Still down? Call Comcast. You can also just text Ben — he can see the Bedford network from Lafayette and often fix it without anyone driving over.

🛠️ Why Ben can help from far away: the Bedford network is linked (“meshed”) with the Lafayette house, so Ben can check on it and the computers remotely.

Lafayette (the main house)#

The Lafayette Wi-Fi uses WPA3-Enterprise — you sign in with your email/domain account rather than a shared password. The short version of the networks you’ll see:

  • FalseBlue — the main Wi-Fi (sign in with your account).
  • FalseBlue-Basic — a backup Wi-Fi with a regular password, for when the main one is being fussy (password is in Ben’s vault).
  • FalseBlue-Guest — for visitors; connect and accept the popup.
